Fun to FAME – Three Tracks to Learn On!
Our musical backgrounds and experience levels can be just as unique as our personalities. As a member, we offer you help and opportunities that speak to your talents and interests. For music production, we offer three “tracks,” to learn on. Each time you elevate to the next track, you’ll gain access to different studios, equipment, opportunities—and your musical world around you will grow right along with your enthusiasm.
Our track system allows us to meet our members where they are in terms of artistic & personal development. Some have specific goals or even career plans, while others enjoy socializing, using state-of-the-art equipment, and being around music. Our tiered program accommodates highly motivated members while simultaneously encouraging less ambitious students to adopt new goals.
Fun Track – Beginner
Members of the first track might use the center as a “drop-in” place, occasionally coming by make music with friends. They are not as goal-directed as FAME Track members, and sometimes simply enjoy the social aspects of the MRC, such as being around peers and listening to music with them. And that’s okay! They tend to have short-term goals, such as recording a single song to share outside of MRC, or practicing beatmaking for fun.
FAME Track III – Intermediate
Earning 25 points and taking a brief studio knowledge quiz gets a member on FAME III. Here, teens begin to enjoy extra privileges such as using more advance studio microphones, booking better studios, and getting a more personal mixing experience with staff. Members only need to apply themselves a little, sharpening their knowledge of the studios and recording software, and get some motivating rewards in return for their effort.
FAME Track II – Advanced
This track gives teens a taste of more involved training experiences, plus access to the more professional recording software Logic Pro. In the studio, members will hear their sound evolving, and be inspired to grow by the added opportunities such as access to even better studios, and booking studio or staff time in advance.
Fame Track I – Pro
FAME I is designed to encourage students to set goals within their involvement and activities at MRC. Requirements for FAME I include completing a capstone project called the “Claim To FAME”. This project is devised by both member and staff, and will differ for each individual, depending on what he or she is interested in doing at MRC. On FAME I you’ll apply what you’ve learned at MRC and complete a project that is relevant to your interests and talents. It also allows the instructors to create learning experiences that are tailored to each specific teen and his or her creative works. For example, one student may choose to create a full length album of original music, and MRC staff would provide assistance and guidance, exposing the teen to the different facets of the process. Another student who is more interested in learning audio engineering might take on the project of recording or mixing a band’s music, learning more advanced techniques along the way.
We will adapt the program to your interests – for example, one student might want to become a better rapper while another might want to become a professional songwriter. Keeping these goals in mind, we design a customized series of activities and experience for each student which is relevant to their interests, and may include workshops, research assignments, classes, lessons, rehearsals, and performances.
